Ari (Embroidery) Style
Ari (Embroidery) style
This very popular style of hand embroidery is most visible in pieces produced in Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. The use of mirrors, beads and patches is predominant in this style of work. The colours used vary hugely from the completely bold and striking to the more earthy and muted. Orange, Rust, Brown, Burgundy and Jade green figure prominently in the more 'older' style work and colours like Pink, White, Blue, and Red are used more heavily in the 'newer' style work.
Most of the bigger size pieces are stitched on to a hard wearing cotton back to strengthen and stretch them properly.
Prices start from € 25 for the smaller wall hangings (without backing). The bigger pieces (with backing) start from € 90 for a typical 3' X 5'sqft piece.
